KONKAN - CALIFORNIA OF INDIA

Konkan means coastal. As many say Konkan – California of Maharashtra, India is a wonderful holiday spot for those who have never experienced that a land with rich mineral resources, a land of landscapes, carpeted with tropical forest, a land of — coconut, betel nut, cashew, jackfruit tamarind, bamboo, , and Alphonso mango.

There are hundreds of interesting tourist spots in Konkan like

1. Sawantwadi – This place is known for market for fish, coconut, betel nuts, Jackfruit; wooden articles, mangoes, amsoles etc. First of all Sawantwadi Sansthan's capital was charata. Sawantwadi was governed by Sansthan Raja after independence. The Raja gave some part of his land to his loyal servers of his kingdom. Later their lands were known as ‘ Sabnis Wada, & Khaskilwada.

2. Reddi – The second place of interest is Reddi for its Ganesh Temple. A local person named Sadashiv Kambli saw the sclupture of Lord Ganesha in his dreams. After digging he found the Ganesha idol.

3. Vijaydurg Fort : Another place of interest is Vijaydurg or Victory Fort which gained recognition around the seventeenth century by Shivaji.

4. Kunkeshwar Temple : It is famous for its sculptures. You will also enjoy its spices, sea food etc. also renowned for its coconut trees, and mangoes.

5. Devgarh : famous for its Alphonso mangoes. It also has a Post shivaji period fortress. Its ramparts now house a lighthouse. It is also famous for beach. This beach must be visited on a full moon night.
So I tell you friends, this place is a good picnic spot. One can reach this place by taking Konkan Railway from Bombay (India) which is much cheaper than any other transport.
